Etna Township, begun in 1833, became the last township formed in Licking County. Surveyed while the Cumberland Road was under construction further East, Etna became a major stopping place for settlers moving West.

These "Pike Towns" provided hotels and shelter. Through more than a century that followed, millions of people traveled through Etna on our National Road, U.S. Route 40.

Transportation and our proximity to Columbus have always been a part of Etna's growth. First on horseback, then the inter urban, then automobiles and trucks on a four-land highway, then the interstate in 1966, all led to business growth in Etna.

Today, quick access to a major city, two international airports, universities and a huge, diverse employment pool have accelerated growth and provide a bright economic future for the township.
